Ed001, how's thing's mate? R u still writing your Ray Leonard article, if so may I ask a question?
I heard in a boxing podcast that there are strong rumours that Leonard was taking PEDs in lead up to Hagler fight, just wanted to ask have u come across any stories about this in your research?

I have had to put it on hold as all my stuff was sent ahead of me before my visa was cancelled, but I will be getting back to it next month.

He was on drugs, that much is known, just not whether they were performance-enhancing or not is the question. He certainly stopped taking cocaine for the fight which could have made the same difference.}

Been reading about PEDs in boxing and other sports mate. Sadly I think a lot of the greats were probably doing it.

I wonder if Hearns and Hagler were? Going by that fantastic first round, it's the best of round of boxing of all time.

Well what we have to take into consideration is that a lot of substances back then were legal but are banned now. Such as Nandrolone, Meldonium and Clenbuterol.

That being said, I would imagine a lot of the higher level athletes are taking something that is either in the 'grey area' or will be banned in the future.

There are of course freaks of nature, like Bernard Hopkins who is one of the very few people in Boxing who had the right nickname. "The Alien".

Read a great article the other day by Thomas Hauser about the Pacquiao v Margarito fight. Because of what had happened between Margarito and Mossley (Margarito's handwrap scandal) both Pacquiao and Margarito had someone in each others changing room. In Margarito's room for team Pacquiao was Billy Keane. Hauser writes " At 9.30 Billy telephones Pacquiaos strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza to report that Margarito was about to take Ephedrine, nasally.
When u take Ephedrine with caffeine and aspirin, Ariza noted, u get speed. Keane said that three cups of coffee had just been delivered to Margarito's dressing room.
It won't show up in his urine unless we test him before the fight, Ariza told Roach. An ECA stack burns out quickly. A post-fight test will be too late.

It just shows u what some of them r up to. I wonder how many more wee tricks like these fighters have been doing.

I like Duran as a fighter. He came to Belfast afew years ago and I had to work but my friend done meet and greet with him got two gloves signed and I have one of them.
As a person but Duran turned my stomach. Well that's harsh. The stories I've heard about him from years ago are disgusting. He may have sorted himself out by then.
